Lighting design

Known for its distinct beauty and rich history, Hoan Kiem Lake stands as a serene, centuries-old symbol of Hanoi. For this lighting design project, our approach was rooted in a deep respect for both the historical monuments and the vibrant public life surrounding the lake.

First, we prioritized architectural heritage through minimal intervention. The iconic monuments were gracefully illuminated at night using advanced, concealed luminaire techniques. By avoiding direct mounting and removing the cluttered legacy cabling and fixtures previously supported by the structures, we successfully restored the monuments to their original, authentic appearance.

Second, we celebrated the natural landscape, particularly the monumental trees that lean over the water's edge. Instead of implementing submerged fixtures to light the water directly, we opted for a strategic perimeter uplighting scheme. This emphasizes the lush greenery, allowing the lake to serve as a giant mirror that reflects the illuminated canopy, creating a magical illusion of floating landscapes.

Finally, the lighting scheme is designed to evolve with time and human connection. The system is programmed to adapt to seasonal shifts and festivities, featuring a dedicated weekend mode. As the area transforms into a lively pedestrian zone filled with street retail and performances, the lighting shifts dynamically to match the energy, safety, and rhythm of Hanoi's community.
